On the surface, it’s a hospital like any other. But only on the surface. At the Vynnyky Medical Center, on the outskirts of Lviv in Ukraine, they exclusively care for war wounded: amputees and the disfigured. It’s a place where physical and psychological reconstruction meets collective resilience. Following a recent agreement between the Ukrainian and French governments, facial reconstruction surgeons are called upon to treat those who have lost their faces in the fighting. This team, led by Professor Chloé Bertolus, one of the leading specialists in Europe, travels several times a year to repair the flesh damaged by bullets and shrapnel from the Russian army. The film bears witness to their medical expertise, their personal commitment, and the bonds they forge with local staff and the wounded.
